A Guide for Students and Families, Pine Hill School District
Chromebooks are an essential learning tool in the Pine Hill School District. This guide is designed to help students and families understand how Chromebooks are assigned, cared for, and used safely throughout the school year.
1. Receiving Your Chromebook
• Each student is assigned a Chromebook to support classroom learning, homework, and online resources.
• Students are responsible for bringing the Chromebook to school fully charged each day.
• Chargers should remain at home unless otherwise instructed.
2. Caring for Your Chromebook
To keep devices working properly, students should:
• Store devices safely in backpacks or protective cases.
• Avoid food and drinks near the Chromebook.
• Carry the device with two hands and avoid holding it by the screen.
• Never place heavy items on top of the Chromebook.
• Keep the device clean using a soft, dry cloth, no sprays or liquids.
If damage occurs, students should report it to their teacher or the main office immediately.
3. Using Your Chromebook at School
Chromebooks are a learning tool. Students are expected to:
• Stay on teacher assigned websites and applications.
• Follow the district’s Acceptable Use Policy.
• Use the Chromebook for educational purposes only.
• Handle the device respectfully during class activities and independent work.
Teachers may restrict or monitor activity when necessary.
4. Using Your Chromebook at Home
When working outside of school:
• Students can access Google Classroom, district approved apps, and learning resources.
• Not all apps or services will work offline, students should plan ahead if they need internet access to complete assignments.
• Parents are encouraged to supervise Chromebook use and set healthy screen time expectations.
5. Internet Safety and Filtering
The district uses filtering and security tools to protect students online, both in school and at home.
However, no filter is perfect. Families should:
• Discuss responsible internet use with students.
• Encourage students to report anything that seems unsafe or inappropriate.
• Remind students never to share personal information, passwords, or logins.
6. Repairs, Damage, and Lost Devices
If a Chromebook stops working:
-
Students should notify a teacher or the school office.
-
The Technology Department will examine the device and determine next steps.
-
If damage is intentional or caused by misuse, families may be responsible for repair costs.
-
Lost chargers or accessories may require replacement fees.
The district does not permit students to attempt repairs at home.
7. Expectations for Responsible Use
Students are expected to:
• Use Chromebooks for academic purposes.
• Keep accounts and passwords private.
• Avoid bypassing filters, installing unauthorized applications, or tampering with device settings.
• Communicate respectfully when using district accounts or platforms.
Misuse may lead to disciplinary action based on school guidelines.
8. Returning the Chromebook
At the end of the school year, or if a student withdraws from Pine Hill School District, Chromebooks and chargers must be returned in good working condition.
Missing or damaged items may result in fees.
